Nick has dedicated his life to championing the needs of our kids as a local teacher, civil rights advocate, nonprofit director, and School Board Member.

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & EXPAND PATHWAYS TO SUCCESS
During Nick’s time in office, he has created new vocational and career technical education courses to prepare students for the jobs of the future.

Nick is continuing to lead the fight for more vocational and job training programs at all schools.

REDUCE SCREEN TIME & RELIANCE
Nick introduced and helped pass the nation’s largest school cell phone ban.

He is spearheading the effort to reduce screen time in the classroom, and investing in outdoor learning and play.

IMPROVE ACADEMIC OUTCOMES
During Nick’s time in office, LAUSD has made great progress by investing in tutoring and intervention to improve reading and math scores, expanding Pre-K and preschool, and increasing dual language programs in Board District 4 in Spanish, Korean, French, and Mandarin.

As a result of Nick’s actions, LAUSD has improved state standardized test scores in English and Math, across all demographics of students. The district has also seen record-setting Advanced Placement (AP) participation and passage rates.

Nick is going to double down on the progress he has made by supporting more dual language courses, honors programs, gifted magnets, twice-exceptional programs, and International Baccalaureate programs.

SUPPORT THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS
More than 80% of LAUSD students live in poverty. Nick has expanded healthcare access for students and guaranteed three meals a day for all students.

Going forward, Nick will continue to meet the needs of students and protect students and families from ICE by creating innovative Know Your Rights and legal services partnerships.

A MORE TRANSPARENT AND USER-FRIENDLY LAUSD
Nick has been the leader of the movement for a more transparent and accessible school district, including by creating LAUSD’s Open Data portal and app for parents.

Nick will ensure that LAUSD’s transparency tools provide more digestible, user-friendly information, and will push to implement his recent resolutions to digitize and simplify parent- and community-facing tools.

Nick will continue to lead the most responsive and engaged Board office, and will expand efforts to cut red tape and build a customer-service culture across LAUSD.
